First Tee – Greater Lexington Launches Inaugural Character-Building Golf Camps

Nicholasville, KY (March 30, 2021) – First Tee – Greater Lexington, a youth development organization dedicated to helping young people build character through the game of golf is hosting its inaugural golf camps this spring at Kearney Hill Golf Links (Lexington) and Golf Club of the Bluegrass (Nicholasville).

The Life Skills programs will teach young people in our community the 9 Core Values – Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy & Judgement.  All skills that can be used at school or a golf course on a daily basis. To attend the camps/sessions it will cost $110 for each youth and will include six weeks of instructions, which will include life lessons, games, refreshments and golf instruction.

“There is a lot that goes into training coaches, securing golf courses, and then partnering with likeminded businesses such as the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and Geldhof Golf Academy,” said Kevin Mims, Executive Director of First Tee – Greater Lexington. “We are excited to teach and influence the youth that attend our Life Skills and Golf Camps better individuals.”

The Tuesday sessions are open to all children/youth 7 to 18 years-old. Thursday sessions are for girls only (7 to 18 years-old) and are sponsored by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). First Tee is for every level of golf skill – beginners, intermediate, and advanced golfers. In order to qualify for First Tee college scholarships, attending national activities and other incentives, participants have to advance through First Tee’s certification process, which include Player, Par, Birdie, Eagle and Ace. If anyone misses a session, they will be able to make up those lessons over the upcoming weeks.
